What is a Customer Shut-Off Valve?
The San Bernardino County Building Code provides that every mountain resident should have one shut-off valve to their water system. Many shut-off valves are located in the build-up area of the house where the main water line enters the home. However, this location does not protect the water service line from the meter to the house which is the property owner’s responsibility.
To protect the property owner’s water service line as well as the irrigation system and main household water system, the recommended location for a shut off valve is on the customer’s side of the meter box. Guidelines for installing a customer shut-off valve are available from the company. Please call (909) 338-1821.
Shut off valves should be clearly marked with a stake or pole that will be easy to spot in the snow. All family members (and your patrol service if you have one) need to know how to locate and operate the valve.
Please remember that only authorized District personnel may turn the District’s water meter off and/or on.
If you plan to have a shut-off valve installed, please notify the Customer Service Staff so they can schedule an inspection to make certain it is installed according to the company’s standards.
If you have any questions about Customer Shut-off Values, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service Staff at (909) 338-1821.
Remember, all water that passes through the meter is the homeowner’s responsibility.
